Color Envy

I've been having a lot of conversations about color lately. I've come to realize that working in color, especially color film, is something I've never really been comfortable with. I'm intimidated by the challenge. It's probably one of the primary reasons why I picked up photography as opposed to a brush and canvas back when I decided I enjoyed some sort of creative expression.

I don't want to psycho analyze myself too much here, but I think it has a lot to do with control issues. Shape, form, contrast, composition - I can control all of these things. Color on the other hand I cannot. Not totally anyway. I can pick and choose of course, but I can't change it. Adding color to my images feels a lot like throwing a hungry cat into a room full of plump complacent mice. I can only wrangle it so much.

I think its time I get over this little fear of mine. Maybe even embrace it for what it is.
