The weather lately has not been doing me any favors. It’s been cold, wet, windy, and dark. One could say it is pretty much a perfect storm of conditions that aren’t so great for working with naked women outside. This is especially true of the wind. If you ever want to see a look of pure hatred in your direction, ask someone to get naked in bitter winds. You will thank me later I promise. You won’t have any friends left, but you will still thank me for the experience.
Strangely, I know a few people who thrive when the weather is at its worse. In all honesty, I find them pretty nuts, but hey, I’m not going to argue with it either. If they feel alive and wonderful in the bitter cold and wet world of the wintery Pacific Northwest who am I to say that is wrong? Instead I’m going to take a picture. After all, the worst thing I have to deal with is cold and numb hands while I hold the steel and faux leather of my Rolleiflex. A very small price to pay for such a lovely photograph if you ask me.
On a twelve exposure roll of film I only had two frames come out in relative focus. I can guarantee that was entirely due to my own shaking hands and the fact that my ground glass fogged up instantly the moment my warm breath came near it in the freezing cold. Luckily I know my cameras well enough to guess the focus point, even with a relatively fast aperture and shallow depth of field at F/3.5.
